December 29 Hagelian ProgressivesThe post here discusses issues of social study where certain information, experience and story is simply discarded as noise. "The time has arrived" - Does this mean our destiny has arrived with time ? Or does it mean an assumption of a purpose of something called time, our collective destiny going with time with some principle ? Has the "goal" of time , the destiny .."destiny" of the bygone called history and its future ever analyzed ? Hagel says it has a final goal. People have proposed national destiny, national purpose along with civilizational destiny, civilizational purpose. Political goals for utopia has been set, Hope for the "goal" of so called history has created new doctrines where piped Pipers would lead their followers through pleasant country sides , valiants acts into the cherished land. Disagreement is not taken lightly. Following statement by Hagel is a clear about his thoughts on goal of history . His notion of freedom has been interesting, what did he understand of "that one is free" ? It is a reference to human "Kamana" , how could he have compared that with the all men are free, which is a political concept. Unfortunately he has had significant influence on social studies. Linear Theories Some philosophers of history, most notably Hegel, have proposed that history proceeds in a line—hence linear—and so is directional, or "going somewhere". For those holding to a linear theory, history is a process that unfolds towards a final goal. This is a progressive view in which what came before was in a sense more "primitive" than now, while what will follow will be an advancement, until such time as the limit is reached. The political suffocation by Bengali marxists is still democracy because, in the worst case Amartya Sen [ Sen usually refrained or was reticent in criticizing comrades] can have a formula to justify it!! The hyper activity around the world about politics is probably guided by this realization - the socialist could change the meaning of democracy according to party formula, if they could match it with a new mechanics, then democracy is changed to accommodate socialist parties and their pressure tactics , and hence their growth. December 06 The marriage procession Modernity had brought this tradition of electronic instruments and extra-fun into marriage ceremonies. "Digestion Guru" - That is WSJ describing Deepaka Chopra . Here is the surprise of wsj: ...It was mandatory, then, to address their grievances -- "humiliation," "poverty," "lack of education." Nowhere in this citation of the root causes of Muslim terrorism was there any mention of Islamic fundamentalism -- the religious fanaticism that has sent fevered mobs rioting, burning and killing over alleged slights to the Quran or the prophet. Nor did we hear, in these media meditations, any particular expression of sorrow from the New Delhi-born Dr. Chopra for the anguish of Mumbai's victims: a striking lack, no doubt unintentional, but not surprising, either. For advocates of the root-causes theory of crime, the central story is, ever, the sorrows and grievances of the perpetrators. If the root causes were not Islamic fundamentalism, Chopra is was no sparing for the hindus. In those interviews he had managed to specter of hindu fundamentalism - but for these freaks like Chopra. The root causes rested there. Apparently it also rested in American domestic politics, Chopra is a supporter of Obama - He hit hard at Bush's policy which were the campaign slogan of Obama. One is not sure if the Terrorists did better than the leftist power brokers and new age gurus in hiding the islamic brotherhood ideology, for which has been an imperial authoritarian violence driver of terrorists. Chopra didn't mention them either. For him the possibility of hindu insanity was more important. Here is a pathetic comment from the first page of the WSJ: "as a sixty year old American and a professor at a national university in Ohio after nearly forty years with a Fortune 100 Company, I am literally sick and tired of hearing taht whatever or whereever issues arise it is somehow the fault of the United States. India is a cauldron sinces its inception with countless sects, pagan worship that facilitate fomentation of radical elements. Look at England which is now more Indian than English and the unending sets of ethnic issues they are having to deal with;" Fortunately informed people consider Chopra as part of Am liberal establishment. It is amazing though, how Chopra and his comrades can push so much for their own greatness , how these are pushing for a debate on how bad the hindus are.
